Human rights accompaniment, conflict transformation and international solidarity

In 2026, Maya participated in international human rights accompaniment through the IX International Caravana of Jurists to Colombia, working alongside lawyers, judges, human rights defenders and civil society organisations to strengthen international solidarity and support access to justice in conflict-affected communities. As part of the Chocó regional delegation, she engaged with Indigenous and Afro-Colombian leaders, public institutions and community organisations to explore the impacts of armed conflict, forced displacement and gender-based violence, while visiting the region just weeks after the devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake that compounded an already complex humanitarian context.

Alongside field visits and high-level institutional engagement, Maya also met with former Colombian President and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Juan Manuel Santos at the Compaz Foundation to discuss the future of Colombia's peace process and the role of international actors in supporting its implementation. Maya also delivered a workshop for the international delegation on trauma-informed interviewing, equipping delegates with practical approaches for conducting ethical interviews with survivors and communities affected by violence. Their work continues beyond the delegation through the development of the Caravana's international report and ongoing advocacy in the UK, including engagement with Parliament and other key stakeholders to amplify the experiences of Colombian communities and support international efforts to advance justice, human rights and sustainable peace.
